Luxury crossovers are the ‘in demand’ segment and where the 2019 Acura RDX is concerned, the consumers are not going to be left disappointed. From the various leaked pictures of the new Acura RDX doing the rounds, we can see that Honda has certainly managed to bridge the gap between itself and some of its competitors.
It seems that Honda has decided that they want to edge out some of the newest entrants to the SUV crossover niche, by providing the public with what it wants the most – a luxury brand that looks, feels and even drives good, and at affordable prices. Guess it’s time we took a closer look at the car, right?
The 2019 Acura RDX is being built on an Acura only platform while the earlier variants were based on Honda platforms; it seems that the new Acura does come with more than a few changes which should get the attention of all the auto enthusiasts. For starters, the new Acura comes with a better paint job than the last one with a brand new palette with matching tones and colours for both the exterior and interiors. And the new model no longer comes with a chrome beak which was one of the reasons that the last model got dinged with one too many negative reviews. Instead, the new Acura model comes with an Acura badge, actually it’s just the same badge but just resized to make it larger.
Exterior, under the hood:
The 2019 Acura RDX, for being a luxury crossover SUV certainly manages to make a splash with its bright and vibrant colors; and the Acura badge that sits on the front grille is actually a diamond pentagon, which completes the new look. It comes with an aerodynamic body, a sleek side profile and the overall length has slightly increased. We suspect that the additional length means extra cargo space so that’s something else we can look forward to.
In fact, according to a recently leaked news item, it seems that the new Acura model will come with an additional 2.3 cubic feet for storage. And it is also expected to feature LED headlights, tail lights with cornering and fog lights near the bumper on the top trims. It also comes with a 2.6 inch longer wheelbase along with shorter front and rear overhangs. All in all, the exteriors look damn good for an SUV crossover.
The 2019 Acura RDX comes with a suave ash trim finish in the interiors for the top trims but then again, the interiors of this model look good in all the trim models. You can also get the burgundy trim finish as well; also all the models come with advanced safety features including blind post monitors.
The top trims also come with rearview cameras; the model comes equipped with power features, heated seats, adaptive cruising for the top trims, a neat dashboard that has been tweaked to accommodate the 10.2-inch touch screen infotainment panel and of course, with the integrated premium audio system. You should be able to access Apple car play and should be able to access Android auto soon as well.
Drivetrain, specs, pricing, launch date:
The 2019 Acura RDX comes packed with a Honda Civic type R turbo 4 engine which is rated at 272 horsepower, so it should be able to rev up to top speed in a matter of seconds. It is expected that the launch will take place shortly and the pricing for the new model with all its available trims is expected to start around $44, 500
