With 2019 Audi A8 about to be launched soon or we so hope, the news certainly got us into a tizzy though not the reasons you would think. And while the upcoming launch of any car is bound to get us all worked up, the Audi A8 is different for the reason that it is also going to be the first car to host level three self-driving capabilities.
Just to put it in perspective, level three self-driving automation is where the car can steer, drive the vehicle but with little or no assistance from the driver. While it is too soon to be celebrating the imminent arrival of Audi A8, the US lawmakers would have a final say in the matter so the launch may well get postponed. But that has not stopped us from wanting to take a closer look at this car and see what makes it tick.
2019 Audi A8 Overview:
The imminent launch (fingers crossed) of 2019 Audi A8 promises to be one of the most anticipated launches ever since we got the first roadster to roll out here. We collated all the info that we could find on this car – from interviews, leaked images to even vetting the various rumours doing the rounds.
It seems that apart from the ‘level three’ autonomous self-driving capability, it seems that there won’t be much of a change as far as the exterior of this vehicle goes but the interior, it seems, has gotten revamped. So let’s get to it, shall we?
Exterior, under the hood:
The 2019 Audi A8, it seems does not feature any big changes on the exterior apart from a few styling changes and the fact that the new model now sports on a wider trapezoidal grille bracketed by large air intakes on either end. It also comes with the same fascia as before except with slimmer LED headlights which kind of accentuates the contours of the car itself.
It does lend itself a futuristic look with two shoulder lines that intersect neatly at the rear with the taillights getting the same treatment as the headlights. The overall look is appealing somewhat but given the advanced functionality that this car is supposed to come with; no one is going to be taking a hard look at the exterior. But on the whole, the exterior is not bad and one hopes that with the next generation, the exterior will get a much-needed redesign.
The 2019 Audi A8 comes with a slightly revamped interior; the car itself comes with both standard wheelbase as well as longer wheelbase but for us, we are slated to get the longer wheelbase and that translates to more space in the interior. Apart from being roomy, the interior has undergone a radical change and for the better.
The automaker has decided to pare down all the buttons and has made the surface digital and touch sensitive. The gauge cluster comes in the form of high-resolution screens and the seats themselves are heated and cooled leather plush seats. It also comes with all the requisite bells and whistles, from a touchscreen infotainment system to climate control.
Engine, Release Date, and Price
The 2019 Audi A8 comes with an all-wheel drive, as well as 3.0-liter turbo-6 with which cranks out 340 horsepower but this can also be used in tandem with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 with about 460 hp net. The new model is slated to be launched by late spring 2019 assuming the US lawmakers give the green signal. The price for the base trim for Audi A8 is set at $84795
