With Cadillac gearing up for a completely new line up next year, we were surprised to hear the news of 2019 Cadillac ELR and the fact that a launch was imminent. Given the fact that this particular model more or less contributed to a lot of negative publicity for the automaker ever since it made its debut in 2014, we were pleasantly surprised to hear that it has undergone a makeover of sorts and that naturally peaked our interest. And soon, after going through all the leaked images, transcripts of interviews with engineers and vetting the rumors, we have prepped this review, so let’s get to it, shall we?
2019 Cadillac ELR Overview:
We certainly did not expect the 2019 Cadillac ELR to be launched this year and given the fact that Cadillac was going for a new line up next year, we did expect this model to bite the dust given its bad performance in the consumer market. But it seems that Cadillac has tweaked the model from hood to its rear end and we wanted to see what changes they had incorporated and whether the new avatar is indeed a better one or not. So let’s take a look under the hood.
Exterior, under the hood:
The 2019 Cadillac ELR comes with a better and more responsive platform; apart from this, the model also sports a slightly tweaked front fascia with a better grille along with restyled LED headlights along with the better realignment of the same. The overall design seems to be more or less the same but then again, the issue with the past variants was the powertrain and the interiors. Anyway, the new model features better-rounded corners with an aerodynamic styling which should help cut down on the drag.
The rear end comes with the same tweaks as the front and includes restyled tail lights which complete the look. The overall design is great; it certainly looks fresh and comes with the same dimensions as the earlier models. In other words, the new model does not add much as the way of more leg room or headroom and the cargo space remains the same. It also comes with the same trim models as the outgoing model but is rumored to come with the better suspension which should greatly improve the riding experience. The exterior looks good enough so let’s take a closer look at the interior.
The 2019 Cadillac ELR comes with LED ambient lights which are certainly an improvement over the last model. It also features rich, plush leather upholstery which should add to the comfort level. The seats are heated as is the steering wheel and the model comes with climate control, power steering along with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with LED features integrated to the same.
The dashboard is slim and not cluttered and the main instrument panel is centralized and offers easy access. The cabin also comes with a few cup holders which should only help increase its functionality.
Engine detail, Release date and Price:
The 2019 Cadillac ELR comes with a combination of 1.4 liters inline-four gasoline engines which also features 160 kW drive motor which is capable of 233 hp and 373 lb-ft of torque. The new model is expected to be launched by the end of 2018 and it is expected to be pegged at $70000 for the base trims. Given the fact that the ELR model got a lot of negative reviews for being too overpriced, one hopes that this price tag would result in better reception amongst the public.
