Well, it seems that we may well expect the 2019 Toyota Supra to roll out soon; the unthinkable had indeed happened. Toyota has decided to go retro, rebooting its 2002 Supra version with more than a few radical changes to make it all the more interesting. Supra was Toyota’s premier sports car until 2002 and now it seems that the automaker is all set to launch a brand new Supra.
Of course, with a launch like this, most of the details have been kept strictly under wraps but this is what we had managed to glean so far, from talking to the company spokespersons, engineers and then vetting the various rumour mills. So, let’s get started, shall we?
The 2019 Toyota Supra comes with a rear wheel drive that it is building along with BMW, and if that was not enough, the rumors also indicate that it will come with straight six and four-cylinder power. We should expect a few improvements and a lot of changes but not so much that we cannot recognize the supra for what it is, a classic sports car.
With all the details being very hush-hush, we finally got a look at the new Supra at one of the recent auto show, and no, it was not there to be launched but more of a “come to see me hither’ look. It sported a camouflaged look but did certainly have all the right moves.
Exterior, under the hood:
The 2019 Toyota Supra, is being built in close collaboration with BMW so we can expect the new model to be based on a joint Z4/ Supra platform. The car still features the same unique ones that made Supra stand apart all those years; apart from that, the new model also comes with seating capacity for 2+2, no surprise there. But what did surprise many is the fact that the new model also comes with tweaks to the rear and to the front fascia but not much?
And even though the model was camouflaged when it was rolled out for a ‘show and tell’, we could still make out that the car design seems to be more aerodynamic. So we should not be too surprised if the new model came with an enhanced design for better speed and efficiency. And the fact that this car is being produced in close collaboration with BMW only makes us all the more keen to see the new Supra, roll out in all its glory.
The 2019 Toyota Supra comes with the Toyota steering wheel but with very conventional interiors which is a marked change from the last Supra. For starters, the interiors look a tad spacious and also features the same dials as most conventional cars do.
That being said, we fully expect this car to come equipped with all trappings of modern comfort and luxury along with advanced safety features as well. And if the recent news is to be believed, it seems that the new Toyota Supra may also compete in the GTE circuit as well.
Engine, Price and Release Date
The 2019 Toyota Supra comes equipped with a turbocharged inline six engines that come paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The new model is also expected to be featuring four to six-cylinder engines but we can confirm that only after the product launch.
Incidentally, we can expect the launch to take place sometime around mid-2019 and the price set for 55000 GBP. The launch is still some time away but until then, we just have to remain patient while expecting the new Supra to roll out soon.
